Sign up now! Electrofishing course in Anchorage from May 21-22, 2025 sponsored by AK AFS and ADFG

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game and the Alaska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society are hosting a two-day electrofishing course in Anchorage from May 21-22, 2025. The in-class portion of the course will cover the theory, application, and safety of backpack electrofishing through PowerPoint lectures, gear demos, and laboratory exercises. Then, a local field trip will familiarize students with standard equipment, protocols, and data collection while sampling fishes. The course is required for electrofishing projects permitted by ADF&G’s Aquatic Resource Permits. Registration is open through May 2. Participants are encouraged to bring the backpack electrofisher and dipnets they will be using in the field to this class.

Course dates: May 21-22 (Wednesday and Thursday), 2025

Time: 8am-6pm with on-site lunch breaks.

Classroom location: William J. Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery, 941 N Reeve Blvd, Anchorage, AK 99501

Field trip location: North Fork Campbell Creek, 4970 Campbell Airstrip Road, Anchorage, AK 99507

Cost: $225 per person
